Abdominal aorta infection by Streptococcus pyogenes.
A 63-year old patient with acute abdominal pain, nausea and temperature (38.8°C) was admitted to emergency; 4/4 haemocultures were positive for Streptococcus pyogenes. Computed tomography scan revealed a suspicion of an abdominal aorta infection with infiltration of surrounding tissue (Fig. 1). Diagnosis was confirmed by fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET)–CT scan (Fig. 2).

Most oral infections are odontogenic, occurring through the root apex of the tooth or the periodontal pocket. It thus makes sense that edentulous patients have a much lower risk of oral bacterial infection. For this reason, while there are many reports on systemic i...
متن کاملThermoregulation of Capsule Production by Streptococcus pyogenes
The capsule of Streptococcus pyogenes serves as an adhesin as well as an anti-phagocytic factor by binding to CD44 on keratinocytes of the pharyngeal mucosa and the skin, the main entry sites of the pathogen. We discovered that S. pyogenes HSC5 and MGAS315 strains are further thermoregulated for capsule production at a post-transcriptional level in addition to the transcriptional regulation by ...
